Brushless DC motors have higher lifetime, lower noise and less friction loss compared to brushed one due to the elimination of electrical connection to rotor. Since the commutation in these motors are done electronically, they have optimal start-up torque and better controllability. In other words, they are more flexible in terms of start-up and control. They have advantages like high speed, high efficiency (up to 95%) and lower volume to power ratio (in generator mode).
